Best Mobile Casino Apps in Canada
A ranking that starts with an awkward truth: most of what gets sold as a casino app in this country is a website wearing an app's clothes. Here is which brands ship a real download and which do not.
If you are hunting for the best mobile casino apps in Canada, the first thing to accept is that the word "app" is doing a lot of lying. Tap "Download" on most casino sites and you are not sent to the App Store or Google Play. You get a prompt to save the website to your home screen, which places an icon that opens the same page you were already on. That is a web-app, and it is the overwhelming majority of what Canadians play on.
Genuine native apps, the kind Apple or Google review, list and update for you, do exist, but they cluster around a handful of large regulated groups. The table below ranks thirteen brands and, for once, tells you in plain language which category each falls into. The top three are paid partners, flagged as sponsored; they happen to be web-first, and we have not pretended otherwise.
| Casino | App type | Platforms | Games | Licence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| KatsuBet | Web-app (no store app) | iOS / Android browser | 5,600+ | Curaçao |
| 7Bit Casino | Web-app (PWA, "Install") | iOS / Android browser | 10,000+ | Curaçao |
| Mirax | Browser only | iOS / Android browser | 7,000+ | Curaçao |
| Betway | Native app | iOS + Android | 2,000+ | MGA; iGO; AGLC |
| Jackpot City | Native app | iOS + Android (APK) | about 2,000 | Kahnawake |
| LeoVegas | Native app | iOS + Android | 3,000+ | MGA; iGO (ON) |
| Spin Casino | Native app | iOS + Android (APK) | about 1,000 | Kahnawake |
| Casumo | Native app | iOS + Android | about 3,300 | Offshore |
| Ruby Fortune | Native app | iOS + Android (APK) | about 1,000 | Kahnawake |
| Royal Vegas | Native app | iOS + Android (APK) | 700–900 | Kahnawake |
| Lucky Nugget | Native (iOS confirmed) | iOS; Android unverified | not published | Kahnawake |
| PlayOJO | Native app (Ontario only) | iOS (ON); browser elsewhere | 3,000+ | MGA; iGO (ON) |
| Wildz | Browser only | iOS / Android browser | 2,000+ | MGA |
App formats were checked against each operator's install page and Apple's Canadian App Store listings in October 2026, with Canadian review databases used to settle Android availability where Google Play carries nothing. A blank cell is a figure the operator does not publish.
What actually counts as an app, and why the label slips
Three different things get called an app on these sites, and the gap between them matters once your money is involved.
A native app is a real program, downloaded from Apple's App Store or installed on Android, that lives on your phone and updates through the store or the operator. Betway, Jackpot City, LeoVegas, Spin, Casumo, Ruby Fortune and Royal Vegas are the brands here that genuinely offer one. On iPhone these come from the Canadian App Store; on Android several of them skip Google Play entirely and hand you an APK to install from the operator's own site, which is a different risk profile we will get to.
A web-app, or Progressive Web App, is the trick most offshore brands use. 7Bit's "Install the App" button and KatsuBet's home-screen prompt both do the same thing: save a bookmark that launches full-screen and looks installed. Nothing is reviewed by a store, nothing downloads, and the "app" is the website. That is not a scam. It is a reasonable workaround for store rules that shut these brands out, but calling it an app in the marketing is a stretch, so we have not.
Then there is browser only, where Mirax and Wildz sit. No install prompt at all; you just use the site in Safari or Chrome. Functionally it is identical to a web-app, minus the home-screen icon. Our separate guide to instant-play (no-download) casinos walks through that browser route in full, and the wider mobile casinos in Canada ranking sorts every option by how the cashier and payouts behave on a phone.
The reason the label slips so often is simple. Apple and Google heavily restrict real-money gambling apps, gate them by country, and can pull them without much warning. An offshore brand licensed in Curaçao rarely clears that bar, so it leans on a web-app and borrows the word. Lucky Nugget is a useful edge case: it keeps a live iOS app on the Canadian App Store, last updated in 2025, while its Android presence is claimed by reviewers but not confirmed on Google Play, so we have marked it honestly rather than rounding it up to "iOS + Android".
Store gatekeeping versus gambling licences
Two sets of rules decide whether an app reaches your phone, and they pull in different directions. The gaming licence, whether Curaçao, Kahnawake, Malta's MGA, or a provincial registration with iGaming Ontario or the AGLC, says the operator is allowed to take Canadian bets. The store policy says whether Apple or Google will carry its app. A brand can be perfectly licensed to serve you and still have no store app, because it never passed, or never attempted, review. That is exactly why the partners at the top rank well on play quality yet show no native build.
It cuts the other way too. A regulated group like Betway runs a store app and holds MGA, iGaming Ontario and, since late September 2026, an Alberta licence under the AGLC. For Ontario and Alberta players that regulated status is the thing that matters, because KatsuBet, 7Bit, Mirax, Casumo and Wildz all block ON and AB, app or no app. LeoVegas keeps Ontario but drops Alberta. A store listing is a convenience; the licence is what decides whether a withdrawal is ever going to arrive.
Getting a genuine app onto your phone
On iPhone it is straightforward. Search the operator's name in the Canadian App Store, check the developer line matches the brand (Betway's casino and sports apps are separate listings, for instance), and install. If a brand's only iOS presence is an Ontario-labelled app and you are outside Ontario, that app is not for you; use the site instead.
Android is messier, and this is where the sideloading warning earns its place. Jackpot City, Spin, Ruby Fortune and Royal Vegas distribute their Android build as an APK from the operator's website rather than through Google Play. Installing it means allowing your phone to accept software from outside the store, which is a setting you should turn back off the moment the install finishes. Only ever take the APK from the operator's own domain, never from a search-result mirror or a forum link, because a repackaged casino APK is a classic way to slip malware onto a phone that is logged into a bank.
If an "app" asks you to disable security warnings, sideload from a link you did not type yourself, or hands over an APK from anywhere but the operator's own site, close it. The real downloads do not need you to lower your defences.
Native-app specifics, brand by brand
| Casino | iOS | Android | Notes | Licence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Betway | App Store | Google Play | Separate casino and sports apps | MGA; iGO; AGLC |
| Jackpot City | App Store | APK from site | Separate Ontario build | Kahnawake |
| LeoVegas | App Store | Google Play | No welcome bonus on the Ontario app | MGA; iGO |
| Spin Casino | App Store | APK from site | No Google Play listing | Kahnawake |
| Casumo | App Store | Google Play | Rest-of-Canada only; left Ontario in 2026 | Offshore |
| Ruby Fortune | App Store | APK from site | Android via download, not Play | Kahnawake |
| Royal Vegas | App Store | APK from site | Smaller library, about 700–900 games | Kahnawake |
| Lucky Nugget | App Store (CA) | Unverified | iOS confirmed; Android claimed by reviews only | Kahnawake |
Platform rows reflect what each operator links from its own mobile page and what shows on Apple's Canadian store as of October 2026. Where Android is served as an APK, no Google Play listing was found; "unverified" means we could not confirm the build ourselves.
Does the native version actually play better?
Sometimes, a little. A real app caches game art, so a crowded lobby can open faster on a weak signal, and it ties into Face ID or a fingerprint for login without you typing anything. Push notifications are cleaner, which the operator likes more than you will. Against that, the app sometimes carries a trimmed library versus the full site, eats storage that grows over time, and needs updating by hand on the APK brands.
The web-app route gives up the store icon and the biometric polish, and gains the complete lobby, zero install, and a version that is always current. For most casual players on a recent phone the difference is close to noise. If you play nightly on a patchy connection, a native app is a fair reason to prefer a regulated brand that offers one; if you play now and then, the site is simpler and you are not babysitting an install.
Two smaller differences are worth weighing before you decide. Push notifications are the first: a native app can ping you with promotions and reload reminders, which is handy if you want them and a nuisance if you do not, and a web-app or browser session simply will not do it. Battery and data sit on the other side of the ledger, and here the gap is tiny. A slot plays about the same whether it runs in an app or a tab, because the heavy lifting is a quick load followed by small messages back and forth. The real battery and data drain is the live dealer stream, which is video, and that costs the same in either format. So the choice is rarely about performance. It comes down to whether you want a home-screen icon and biometric login badly enough to accept a manual APK update, or whether a bookmark that always runs the current site suits you better.
Keeping control when the casino is one tap from the home screen
An installed icon, real or web-app, lowers the friction between an idle moment and a spin, and that is the whole point for the operator. Put limits up before that convenience works against you. Every regulated brand here lets you set deposit caps, session timers and self-exclusion inside the account, and your phone's own screen-time controls add a layer the casino cannot override. Turn those on the first time you log in, not after a long night.
If the habit stops feeling like a choice, help is free and confidential. In Ontario, ConnexOntario answers around the clock at 1-866-531-2600; in British Columbia, Gambling Support BC is at 1-888-795-6111. You reach a person, not a script, and nobody pushes you toward anything.
Short answers before you install
Is there a real casino app for my iPhone in Canada?
For some brands, yes. Betway, Jackpot City, LeoVegas, Spin, Casumo, Ruby Fortune, Royal Vegas and Lucky Nugget carry iOS listings on the Canadian App Store. Most offshore names, including the three partners at the top of this page, offer a home-screen web-app instead.
Why do I only find an APK on Android, not a Play Store app?
Google restricts real-money gambling apps and many operators do not list there, so they hand you an APK from their own site. Install it only from the operator's domain, and switch off "install unknown apps" again afterward.
Are the partner brands worth it if they have no store app?
They are built for the browser and run the largest libraries on this page, from 5,600 games on KatsuBet to 10,000-plus on 7Bit. If a store icon is not a dealbreaker, the web-app plays the full lobby with nothing to install. Note that all three block Ontario and Alberta.
Does the Ontario app work in the rest of Canada?
No. PlayOJO's App Store listing is an Ontario product, and several native apps ship a separate Ontario build tied to the provincial licence. Outside Ontario you use the operator's rest-of-Canada site or app, not the ON one.
Will an app give me a bigger bonus than the website?
Usually the offer is the same across app and site, and the Ontario apps often carry no welcome bonus at all. Read the promotion on the sign-up screen rather than assuming the app unlocks something extra.
One last habit, the unglamorous kind: before you let any APK near a phone that holds your banking app, confirm the file came from the operator's own address and nowhere else. The genuine downloads are easy to find and never ask you to switch off a security warning to get them. Anything that does is the problem it claims to protect you from.
