What is a broadband router or gateway?
A broadband router or gateway acts as a junction between two or more networks to transfer data packets among them. Essentially, a router will allow you to share your broadband Internet connection to all your multiple computers or devices at the same time. You will avoid having to unplug each device’s cable whenever you want to switch to another device.

Do I need a router?
Not necessarily. If you don’t own a computer and you are only using your broadband Internet to access Times Telecom service, then you don’t need a router. Additionally, you can connect multiple devices to your DSL or cable modem via hub or LAN switch if your ISP provides you multiple public IP addresses. However, once you begin owning multiple devices that need access to your broadband Internet, then we suggest your get yourself one. Although most routers are compatible with Times Telecom service, it is suggested that you find yourself a router that includes Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Network Address Translation (NAT), Dimilitarized Zone (DMZ), and Firewall services.

What should I do if my phone adapter is behind a firewall?
Times Telecom phone adapters are programmed with a private IP address to work behind firewalls, as long as your Network Address Translation (NAT) router is simple. If you still have problems accessing Times Telecom service due to your firewall, make sure that you give the phone adapter rights to access the following Internet ports: 80-80 TCP, 5060 UDP and 6000-20,000 UDP.

My computer connects to the Internet through the USB port and has no Ethernet connection. How can my phone adapter fit into my network?
You will have to change your broadband Internet connection from USB to Ethernet, by connecting your computer and phone adapter to a router. You will also need to install an Ethernet card in your computer or use a USB-to-Ethernet conversion cable to connect your computer to the router. Please note: do not connect devices on both USB and Ethernet ports at the same time, as the Ethernet port will not function.
